The No. 22 Washington women’s tennis team lost to the fifth-ranked Ohio State Buckeyes, 4-2, on April 19 at the Ty Tucker Tennis Center in Columbus, Ohio.

This match marked the end of the regular season for Washington, which finished with an overall record of 18-4 and a Big Ten conference record of 9-4.

Ohio State took an early lead by winning the doubles point with victories on Courts 1 and 3. Erika Matsuda and Karolina Kozakova were ahead against their opponents before their match was left unfinished. In singles play, Reece Carter secured her highest career ranked victory by defeating fourth-ranked Luciana Perry in straight sets, 6-4, 6-4. Carter ended the regular season with a singles record of 17-1 at the No. 2 position, matching her previous best from her freshman year at Arizona.

Jermine Sherif also achieved a ranked win over Audrey Spencer with scores of 6-4, 6-4 and set a new personal best with her sixteenth singles win this season. Despite these individual successes for Washington, Ohio State clinched the overall match by securing wins on Courts 1, 3 and 4.

The Huskies will now wait for other matches to conclude to determine their seeding for the upcoming Big Ten Tournament starting April 23 in Columbus.

The outcome highlights both strong individual performances from Washington players as well as challenges faced against higher-ranked competition.
