Washington women’s tennis secures 4-0 sweep over Illinois at home

The Washington women’s tennis team earned a 4-0 victory against Illinois on March 29 at the Nordstrom Tennis Center, marking their third consecutive sweep.

The win brings Washington’s overall record to 15-1 and improves their Big Ten conference record to 6-1. The team has maintained a perfect home record of 10-0 this season.

Before the match, Washington Athletics honored Trish Bostrom, a Husky Hall of Famer, with a Legacy ITA All-American banner that will be displayed alongside other All-Americans in the Nordstrom Tennis Center.

In doubles play, Reece Carter and Jermine Sherif secured a quick win in the No. 3 spot with a score of 6-0. Alexia Jacobs and Marie Weissheim continued their undefeated streak with an 11th straight win by taking the No. 2 doubles match, finishing at 6-3. In singles matches, Sherif won her contest on court four without dropping a game (6-0, 6-0), improving her season record to 12-1 overall. Jacobs followed with another straight-set victory (6-1, 6-0) on court three. Carter clinched the overall match for Washington by winning her singles match on court two (6-1, 6-0), remaining undefeated for the season at 14-0.

Looking ahead, Washington will travel to Southern California for upcoming matches against USC on April 3 and UCLA on April 5.
