The University of Washington women’s tennis team will begin its campaign in the Big Ten Tournament as the No. 5 seed, facing No. 12 seed Penn State on Thursday, April 22. The match is scheduled for 8:30 a.m. Pacific Time, with live streaming and scoring available on GoHuskies.com.

The Huskies have shown strong performance throughout the season, compiling a combined record of 110-34 across singles and doubles matches over their first 22 contests. In doubles play, Washington has secured victory in 19 out of their last 22 matches and holds an unbeaten record on Court 2.

In national rankings released by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) on April 21, Washington is ranked No. 23 as a team. Two players are featured in the ITA singles rankings: Reece Carter at No. 52 and Erika Matsuda at No. 92. The doubles pairing of Matsuda and Carina Syrtveit is ranked No. 85 nationally.

Carter and Matsuda received All-Big Ten honors earlier this week; Carter was named to the first team while Matsuda earned spots on both the second team and sportsmanship team. Both athletes have achieved all-conference recognition each year during their collegiate careers.

Under head coach Robin Stephenson, Washington has maintained a home record of 115-29 since 2015, including four seasons with double-digit home wins over the past five years and an undefeated regular season at Montlake for the first time since 2003.

Looking ahead, Washington will await its postseason placement during the NCAA Selection Show scheduled for Monday, April 27 at NCAA.com.
