Washington women’s tennis to face USC and UCLA in Top 25 matchups

The No. 21 ranked Washington women’s tennis team will travel to Southern California for two matches against Top 25 opponents, No. 12 USC on Friday and No. 18 UCLA on Sunday, both starting at noon, according to an April 2 announcement.

These upcoming matches are significant as Washington enters the weekend with a strong overall record of 15-1 and a conference record of 6-1 in Big Ten play. The team has demonstrated consistent performance across all courts, remaining unbeaten on Court 2 in both singles and doubles through the first fourteen matches.

In doubles action, Washington has secured the doubles point in fifteen out of sixteen matches this season and holds a combined record of 32-5 among its pairs. The latest Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) rankings place Washington at No. 21 as of March 31, with Reece Carter ranked No. 70 and Erika Matsuda at No. 76 in singles. Matsuda also appears alongside Carina Syrtveit at No. 75 in the doubles rankings.

Reece Carter was named Big Ten Player of the Week on April 1 after going undefeated over the previous weekend, clinching victories that helped sweep Northwestern and Illinois for her team while maintaining her personal singles record at an unblemished14-0 for the season.

USC’s women’s tennis team currently holds a record of13-5 overall with three players ranked individually—Jana Hossam (No.23), Emma Charney (No.58), and Eugenia Zozaya (No.123)—and three pairs appearing in national doubles rankings as well.

UCLA enters their matchup against Washington with a9-6 overall mark this season; Anne-Christine Lutkemeyer is ranked17th nationally in singles while Mayu Crossley is ranked41st; Olivia Center teams up with Fate Fakih for a29th-place ranking among doubles pairs.

Following these contests, Washington will return home for regular-season matches against Minnesota on April10 and Wisconsin on April12 when seniors Reece Carter and Erika Matsuda will be recognized.
