Seattle-based clothing store Pipe & Row was launched in 2014 with the goal of helping customers express themselves.

“I wanted to create something that was both welcoming and inspiring for women to explore their style — in a way that felt natural but also allowed space for their full expression,” the store’s owner and curator, Kayla Gil, told Seattle City Wire. “I make my selections that feel fun and practical, for show and for play. We are rarely just one way, one style, and I wanted to create a space that encompassed all facets of this expression. I hope that Pipe & Row serves as a place for that, and our customers can discover something new about themselves along the way.”

The brick-and-mortar store is located in Seattle’s Fremont district, and Pipe & Row sells its designs online as well.

Among the store’s most popular items are AGOLDE Denim, everything Paloma Wool, the Erin leather sandals and Stutterheim rain jackets, according to Gil.

“Our store has evolved with our customers,” she said. “Creating functional wardrobes for our customers has always been our goal. Maintaining that and building relationships has helped us to grow into the business we are today."

Gil is a native of the Seattle area who has been involved in the fashion industry since she was 14. She earned a degree in apparel design from Washington State University and worked in both Los Angeles and New York to learn styling, merchandising and sales skills before coming home in 2014 to start Pipe & Row.

The store is named for her twin niece and nephew, Piper and Rowin.

“She now has a second niece, Wren, and a son, Miguel, so maybe there will be a new shop for them,” the store’s website says. “She loves being around inspiring people and inspiring others to pursue their goals."

The store has a small team of only five people, who are all dedicated to the ethos of Pipe & Row. “We build long-lasting and meaningful relationship with our customers,” Gil said.

Between Wednesday, May 19, and Wednesday, May 26, the store is planning to host a vintage furniture pop-up with Cool House Vintage, an eclectic vintage furniture store also located in Seattle.
