Detectives Investigating Friday Evening Fatal Shooting

A man was killed and another man has been detained following a shooting in the Columbia City neighborhood.

Just after 6:15 p.m., officers from South Precinct responded to a call of a person shot in the area of 35th Avenue South and South Dawson Street. Arriving units found a victim with gunshot wounds and started CPR. Despite efforts by police and fire, the victim died at the scene.

Police found evidence of a shooting near the intersection of Martin Luther King Junior Way and South Orcas Street. The victim had driven from the location to where he was found several blocks away.

Members of the Crime Scene Investigation Unit also responded with Homicide detectives who will lead the investigation.
