Rep. Pramila Jayapal, a member of the U.S. Congress representing Washington's 7th district since 2017, shared her views on climate change and energy policies through a series of tweets on January 23, 2025.
In her first tweet, Jayapal highlighted the significance of the Paris Climate Agreement, which has been joined by 195 parties to mitigate climate change impacts. She noted that "The United States now becomes one of just four UN nations not signed on, and we could lose out on a trillion-dollar-plus renewable energy boom as a result."
Addressing frustrations over current environmental policies in another tweet posted at the same time, she stated "This is all incredibly frustrating. We know the climate crisis is real and that its devastating effects are harming our communities right now." She criticized Trump and Republicans for supporting Big Oil while affirming her commitment to environmental protection alongside fellow Democrats.
In a subsequent tweet also dated January 23, 2025, Jayapal discussed wind energy as a key renewable resource in the United States. She expressed concern over Trump's decision to block new offshore wind farm constructions by questioning his claims about their impact on marine life: "Do windmills actually kill whales like Trump says? No." She further argued that this move benefits Big Oil financially.
