Pramila Jayapal, currently serving in the U.S. Congress and representing Washington’s 7th district, has made several statements regarding Social Security and immigration policies. Jayapal, who replaced Jim McDermott in 2017, continues to be vocal about her stance on various issues that concern her constituents.

On April 16, 2025, Rep. Jayapal expressed concerns over Social Security, stating, "I am hearing every single day from constituents who are worried about their Social Security checks. Let me be clear: Social Security is an EARNED BENEFIT. Trump and Musk’s attempts to steal Social Security checks from Americans are illegal and we will not stand for it."

Later the same day, she criticized proposed immigration policies, asserting, "Trump wants to send U.S. citizens to foreign gulags under horrifying conditions. But let's be clear — some of the immigrants he's targeting have done nothing wrong other than disagreeing with him. Who's to say the bar will be higher for citizens?"

Furthermore, Jayapal addressed issues within the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), emphasizing the need for accountability. She remarked, "Any death is a tragedy, and it’s incredibly concerning that it seems protocols were not followed and detention logs were incorrect. I’m calling on the DHS to provide answers on how this happened."

The congresswoman, born in Chennai in 1965, has been an advocate in U.S. politics, previously serving in the Washington State Senate from 2014 to 2016 and residing currently in Seattle.
