Rep. Pramila Jayapal, a U.S. Congress member representing Washington's 7th district, recently took to social media to express her stance on various political issues involving the Trump administration and Elon Musk. In a series of tweets dated February 12, 2025, she addressed concerns about USAID and the National Science Foundation.
In her first tweet, Rep. Jayapal announced her support for legislation aimed at preventing former President Donald Trump and Elon Musk from dismantling USAID. She emphasized that "USAID employs thousands of Americans and saves millions of lives worldwide." Jayapal highlighted that the agency was established by Congress, asserting that neither Trump nor Musk has the authority to close it down.
Later that day, Rep. Jayapal criticized Trump's actions regarding the National Science Foundation (NSF). She revealed that "Trump gave staff at the National Science Foundation a list of keywords to use when determining which grants to halt." Among these keywords was "women," which she described as an "absurd" criterion for influencing scientific research funding decisions.
In another post on February 12, Rep. Jayapal expressed concern over what she described as a freeze on USAID operations orchestrated by Trump and Musk. She stated succinctly that "Trump and Elon’s USAID freeze is costing lives."
