Rep. Pramila Jayapal, a member of the U.S. Congress representing Washington's 7th district, recently took to social media to express her concerns over Republican policies regarding Medicaid and SNAP benefits. Her tweets reflect her opposition to proposed budget cuts affecting these programs.

On February 14, 2025, Rep. Jayapal tweeted about past efforts by Democrats in Congress to reduce child poverty and invest in housing and childcare. She contrasted this with current Republican actions, stating: "Republicans are using their power to cut Medicaid (provides health care to 38 million kids) & gut SNAP (provides food assistance to 42 million people). Republicans are betraying us."

Later that day, she referenced former President Donald Trump's promises regarding Medicaid in another tweet dated February 14, 2025: "Donald Trump promised to not cut Medicaid, and even said that he would 'love and cherish' the program. So tonight, I challenged Republicans: vote for my amendment to block the huge cuts to Medicaid in your budget proposal." She urged Republicans not to remove healthcare from millions of children.

In a subsequent update on February 14, 2025, Rep. Jayapal informed her followers that her amendment was blocked by Republicans: "UPDATE: Republicans just blocked my amendment to protect Medicaid. They voted to rip health care away from 72 million Americans." She described this action as disgraceful.
