Rep. Pramila Jayapal, a member of the U.S. Congress representing Washington’s 7th district since 2017, shared her views on various policies attributed to former President Donald Trump in a series of tweets. The posts address issues related to funding for health research, economic strategies involving tariffs, and Social Security statistics.
On March 5, 2025, Rep. Jayapal commented on Trump's statement regarding his inability to please certain audiences: "Trump: 'There is absolutely nothing I can say to make them happy or to make them stand or smile or applaud.' Yes, there’s no standing ovation for cutting funding for cancer research, stripping Medicaid, and raising costs for working people."
Later that day, she criticized Trump's economic policies: "Trump claims he’s 'rescuing the economy' — but his tariffs are just a giant tax on American consumers that will cost the average family thousands of dollars. It’s a betrayal of the middle and working class."
In another tweet posted shortly thereafter, Rep. Jayapal accused Trump of misrepresenting information about Social Security: "Trump is making up stats about Social Security so he has an excuse to cut your benefits."
