Pramila Jayapal, a U.S. Congress member representing Washington’s 7th district since 2017, has taken to social media to express her views on recent policy statements made by former President Donald Trump. Jayapal has been an active voice in Congress, known for her critical stance on various policy issues.

On March 5, 2025, Jayapal addressed the impact of tariffs implemented under Trump's administration. She stated that when Trump mentions "tariffs," it is essentially "a TAX on everything you buy," highlighting that from everyday items like tomatoes to gasoline, consumers will bear the financial burden. "When Trump says 'tariffs,' remember: That’s a TAX on everything you buy. From tomatoes to gas — you’ll be paying more."

In another tweet posted shortly after, Jayapal critiqued Trump's stance towards farmers. She noted the discrepancy between his expressed support for farmers and policies that make essential agricultural inputs like fertilizers more expensive. "Trump: 'I love the farmer.' Also Trump: Makes critical fertilizers more expensive."

Later that day, Jayapal questioned Trump's commitment to protecting America's children in light of his attempts to reduce healthcare coverage for children enrolled in Medicaid. She pointed out the inconsistency between his claims and actions regarding child welfare programs. "Trump claims he wants to 'protect America’s children.' Then why is he trying to cut off health care for the 38 million children on Medicaid?"
