Rep. Born in Chennai in 1965 and currently residing in Seattle, Jayapal has been vocal about various national issues.

On March 5, 2025, Jayapal expressed her concerns over tariffs imposed by Trump, stating that they effectively act as a tax burden on American citizens. She remarked "Let’s be clear: Trump’s tariffs are a TAX on the American people." She further noted that these tariffs increase prices on essential goods like beer and bananas, which she believes is a betrayal to poor, working, and middle-class families.

Later that day, at 18:25 UTC, Jayapal addressed the financial strain experienced by Americans due to rising costs. She criticized Trump's perceived indifference to these issues with her statement "Your costs are rising? You can barely afford to pay rent or buy groceries? Trump doesn’t care."

In another post at 19:33 UTC on the same day, Jayapal highlighted a legislative proposal by House Republicans intended to protect Trump from legal consequences related to state law violations during his presidency. She commented "The president is not a king. But if Republicans pass this legislation, they'll be making Donald Trump royalty."
