The bioscience and research institute will need a new chief scientific officer by March 1.

On Feb. 5, Todd Peterson said in a release that he would resign from the role with the Seattle-based Allen Institute to "pursue other professional opportunities."

"I am deeply thankful for this incredible opportunity to serve a team committed to advancing the Allen Institute's mission, ultimately changing lives and benefiting human health around the world," Peterson said in a company release.

For more than 35 years, Peterson gained experiences in life sciences — biotechnology research and development and academic research, the release said. He was the chief technology officer at Synthetic Genomics Inc. in California before joining the institute.

Peterson also led the Office of Science and Technology and the Science and Technology Committee of the Institute's Board of Directors and developed its Scientific Advisory Board.

"We are thankful for Todd's many contributions during his time at the Institute and will miss his partnership and perspective," Allen Institute President and CEO Allan Jones said in the release.
