Seattle-Tacoma-Bellevue metro lag behind Chicago-Naperville-Elgin in 2019

The Seattle-Tacoma-Bellevue metro area exported $41.2 billion in 2019, less than exports from Chicago-Naperville-Elgin in 2019, according to the International Trade Administration.

A study from the Brookings Institute found competition between areas within the United States increases exports, which in turn generates stronger sales and more jobs for American workers.

The Seattle-Tacoma-Bellevue metro area consists of three counties.

The Chicago-Naperville-Elgin metro area comprises nine counties exporting $41.4 billion in 2019.

The metro area with the most exports was Houston-The Woodlands-Sugar Land with $129.7 billion exported.
