SPD patrol officers, along with units assigned to the Community Violence Task Force and Robbery Unit detectives, located and arrested a 17-year-old male for making threats to a Pioneer Square area nightclub Thursday.
Shortly after 6:00 p.m., dispatch received a 911 call stating an unknown male had posted concerning statements to an online forum regarding an upcoming nightlife event.
A patrol officer interviewed the caller who stated they just returned from attending a concert at the Gorge Amphitheater, where a shooting took place. They advised the officer they were reading posts on social media regarding a Seattle nightlife event when they saw a post that frightened them.
During the investigation, the officer determined the threats to be credible and developed probable cause to arrest the juvenile suspect for making threats to harm attendees of the nightlife event.
Police were able to locate the suspect in Tacoma and took him into custody. Detectives located a handgun in the juvenile’s possession.
Detectives served a search warrant on the juvenile’s residence and located a semi-automatic rifle and a 9mm drum magazine with ammunition.
The suspect was booked into the Youth Services Center for Investigation of Threats to Bomb or Injure Property by Unlawfully Threatening to Injure a Place of Public Assembly/Place Used for Human Occupancy and Investigation of Unlawful Possession of Firearms.
