Rep. Pramila Jayapal, a member of the U.S. Congress representing Washington's 7th district, has expressed her concerns regarding the impact of a funding freeze announced by former President Trump. Through a series of tweets, she highlighted the fear and uncertainty faced by individuals relying on federal assistance programs.

On January 28, 2025, Rep. Jayapal shared an interaction with a senior citizen from Washington who contacted her office expressing fear over Trump's funding freeze. The individual stated, "I’m on SNAP and Medicaid. I don’t know what I’m going to do or how I’m going to live." Rep. Jayapal attributed this anxiety directly to Trump's actions.

Later that day, Rep. Jayapal announced that a judge had blocked Trump's funding freeze order, describing it as unconstitutional. She stated that the order had instilled fear among those dependent on federal resources like Medicaid and SNAP and affirmed her commitment to ensuring access to these essential services: "BREAKING: A judge just blocked Trump's unconstitutional funding freeze."

On January 29, 2025, Rep. Jayapal provided further clarification about the situation through another tweet thread: "Let’s be really clear what happened today: Trump’s White House released a memo freezing 'all federal financial assistance' — including SNAP, WIC, and Medicaid." She emphasized the ongoing battle against such measures and stressed the importance of opposing these policies.
