Rep. Pramila Jayapal, who has been serving in the U.S. Congress representing Washington’s 7th district since 2017, shared her views on several significant issues via social media on January 31, 2025.
On this date, Jayapal marked the anniversary of the issuance of the first Social Security check by emphasizing its importance as a fundamental benefit. She stated, "85 years ago today, the first Social Security check was issued. This was a massive move to help people keep money in their pockets and retire with dignity. Let me be clear: Social Security is an EARNED benefit and something Democrats will fight to protect."
Later that day, she addressed reproductive rights concerns by criticizing Republican efforts towards a national abortion ban. In her tweet, she asserted, "Republicans continue to target reproductive care as they move closer and closer to a national abortion ban. The abortion pill has been proven safe by the FDA for decades. Let patients and doctors make their own health care decisions."
Finally, Jayapal commended Washington State's initiative in Medicaid reimbursement for doula services, highlighting its significance in maternal care. She expressed support by stating, "WA state is now providing the highest Medicaid reimbursement for doula services. Doulas provide essential prenatal and postpartum care for so many families, and it’s great to see our state leading the way in recognizing this work."
