Summary: Join us for a Facebook live event celebrating local author Donna Barba Higuera, winner of the 2022 Newbery Medal for Children’s Literature!
Description: Donna Barba Higuera, winner of the 2022 Newbery Medal for "The Last Cuentista," will be in conversation with Tae Keller, winner of the 2021 Newbery Medal for "When You Trap a Tiger." This is the 100th anniversary of the Newbery awards, which is presented annually by the Association for Library Service to Children, a division of the American Library Association, to the author of the most distinguished contribution to American literature for children. It’s considered the the most prestigious award in children’s literature – and both of the most recent recipients happen to be local authors!
In addition to the Newbery, Donna Barba Higuera won the 2022 Pura Belpré award, which is presented annually to a Latino/Latina writer whose work best portrays, affirms, and celebrates the Latino cultural experience in an outstanding work of literature for children and youth.
This event is streaming live on Seattle Public Library’s Facebook page (you do not have to have a Facebook account to watch this event) and will also be recorded.
Presented in partnership with the Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators of Western Washington, Brick & Mortar Books in Redmond, and Levine Querido.
