The Seattle Police Department remembers and honors Officer Charles O. Legate, who died on this day in 1922. When officer Legate didn’t meet his partner at the call box on 12th Ave S and Jackson to “ring in” as planned, officers began to search the area of his beat. Legate’s body was found inside a car, in a garage on Main Street. He had been beaten and shot twice. Officer Legate was survived by a wife and three children.
