Police arrested a man with a felony warrant and recovered a loaded handgun in the Central District Saturday night.
Just after 9 p.m., officers with the SPD Community Response Group recognized a man with whom they had prior contacts in the area of 23rd Avenue South and South Jackson Street. Units confirmed the subject was wanted for an outstanding felony warrant and went to contact him.
The suspect ran from officers and refused commands to stop. During the foot chase, police saw what appeared to be a handgun in his waistband which the suspect also grabbed at one point.
Police caught up to the suspect and took him into custody. Officers located a firearm down a leg of the suspect’s pants which had fallen from his waistband while he was running. Once the gun was removed, it was found to be fully loaded with a bullet in the chamber.
The suspect was confirmed to be a felon with multiple convictions and is federally prohibited from being in possession of a handgun.
Officers booked the 31-year-old suspect into the King County Jail for his warrant and unlawful possession of a firearm.
