Rep. Pramila Jayapal, who has been serving in the U.S. Congress representing Washington’s 7th district since 2017, voiced strong criticism regarding recent actions by prominent figures and the Trump administration over several tweets. Her statements address issues ranging from healthcare funding cuts to constitutional rights violations.

On April 4, 2025, Rep. Jayapal condemned the decisions by former President Trump and Elon Musk for closing clinics that provide treatment to survivors of sexual assault and enforcing an 88% reduction in maternal and child health programs. She described these actions as slashing USAID funding and expressed her outrage by stating, "Trump and Elon Musk are closing clinics that treat survivors of sexual assault and have forced an 88% cut to maternal and child health programs. This is the USAID funding they’re slashing. It’s horrifying."

In a subsequent tweet on April 5, 2025, Rep. Jayapal criticized the Trump administration for failing to lower costs as promised. Instead, she accused them of economic negligence, claiming, "Trump vowed to lower costs. But since taking office, he and Republicans have done NOTHING to actually deliver on that promise for Americans. They're too busy crashing the economy and destroying Social Security and Medicaid, all so they can give a giant tax cut to the richest 1%."

Later the same day, Rep. Jayapal addressed what she sees as a violation of constitutional rights, particularly concerning free speech and protest. She highlighted that legal permanent residents are entitled to these rights and criticized deportation attempts by the Trump administration, tweeting, "The Constitution guarantees the right to free speech and protest to legal permanent residents — even if they're on a college campus saying something you disagree with. Donald Trump’s attempts to deport these individuals are a dangerous breach of all of our civil rights."
