Rep. Pramila Jayapal, a prominent U.S. Congresswoman representing Washington's 7th District since 2017, has expressed critical views on recent political events in her series of tweets. Prior to serving in Congress, Jayapal held a seat in the Washington State Senate and has been an influential political leader. Her educational background includes degrees from Georgetown University and Northwestern University.
On April 5, 2025, Rep. Jayapal voiced her agreement with Senator Bernie Sanders in condemning U.S. involvement in Israel's military actions on Gaza. She remarked on her disappointment over Congress's failure to block weapons sales to Israel, stating "I agree with @SenSanders: the United States is complicit in Israel’s violent and destructive war on Gaza, and I’m incredibly disappointed Congress didn’t pass our measure to block offensive weapons sales to the Israeli government."
The following day, on April 6, 2025, she criticized former President Donald Trump for allegedly misleading the public regarding cost reductions and immigration policies. Rep. Jayapal emphasized the lack of due process for legal residents, asserting "Trump lied to you about lowering costs. He’s also lying to you about immigration. Instead of bringing order to the immigration system, he’s kidnapping and disappearing people who are legal residents with absolutely zero due process. That's authoritarian."
Later that day, she highlighted specific cases of individuals she claimed had been targeted due to dissent against Trump, identifying three individuals: Mahmoud Khalil, Rumeysa Ozturk, and Yunseo Chung. Jayapal cautioned against the dangers of such actions, declaring "Trump is going after people who are in the U.S. legally just because he disagrees with what they’re saying. That should terrify every single one of us. If he can do it to them, he can do it to you, too."
