Rep. Pramila Jayapal expressed her views on social media about critical issues currently facing the nation. She addressed a range of topics including Social Security, privacy concerns in medical records, and recently passed budget legislation.
On April 10, 2025, Jayapal commented on the state of Social Security. She criticized the behavior of the Department of Greed and Ego, a term she used to highlight mismanagement, stating, "Social Security is not a tech company. 73 MILLION Americans depend on those checks. The power of the people forced DOGE--the Department of Greed and Ego--to retreat from one of its many royal screw-ups." She further claimed that Elon Musk's ultimate intention was to "eliminate" it.
Later on the same day, she responded to a committee session by criticizing the appearance of a specific Republican witness. Jayapal wrote, "Republicans’ star witness in committee yesterday was a doctor who released the private medical records of trans kids without their parents' consent. Shameful and disgusting."
In another post, she addressed a budgetary decision made by Republicans, "Republicans just passed their budget bill, which cuts nearly $880 billion from Medicaid so they can give a $4.5 trillion tax cut to the richest 1%. I voted NO."
Pramila Jayapal has been serving in the U.S. Congress since 2017, representing Washington’s 7th district. Prior to her tenure in Congress, she served in the Washington State Senate. Born in Chennai, India, she resides in Seattle and holds degrees from Georgetown and Northwestern University.
