Rep. Pramila Jayapal, who has been serving Washington’s 7th district in the U.S. Congress since 2017, recently shared her thoughts on immigration, social security, deportation, and a holiday observance through a series of social media posts.
On April 12, 2025, Jayapal expressed her concern regarding the impact of immigration on Social Security. She stated that Social Security is critically dependent on the contributions of both documented and undocumented immigrants. "Social Security would collapse without the contributions of immigrants, documented & undocumented. If you mine & release private tax data, no one will want to pay taxes. Just maybe, that’s the purpose of this whole thing? To collapse Social Security entirely???"
In a subsequent tweet on the same day, Jayapal highlighted concerns over deportation practices under the Trump administration. She cautioned against the potential for wrongful deportations of individuals with no criminal record. "Why should you be concerned about Trump “accidentally” deporting people who have zero criminal record? Because if he can do it to them — and ignore judges when they tell him to stop — he can do it to anyone he wants."
Concluding the day, Jayapal shared a message celebrating Passover, extending wishes of joy and justice to her constituents and followers. "Happy Passover! Wishing you and your loved ones a meaningful Pesach filled with joy and justice."
