U.S. Representative Pramila Jayapal, a prominent figure hailing from Washington's 7th Congressional District, has taken to social media to express her stance on several pressing issues. With an active political career since 2017, Jayapal is known for her forthright opinions on government policies and societal matters.
On April 14, 2025, Jayapal emphasized the fundamental principle of birthright citizenship, criticizing a move by former President Trump. She stated, "All persons born on U.S. soil are U.S. citizens — plain and simple." Jayapal announced her role in co-leading an amicus brief with over 200 House Democrats opposing Trump's executive order, which she described as unconstitutional.
Later the same day, Jayapal addressed environmental concerns, attributing disregard of the climate crisis to former President Trump and accused him of pandering to "billionaire Big Oil buddies." She posted, "As hurricanes wipe out entire towns, sea levels rise, and pollution makes our kids sick, Donald Trump is still denying the climate crisis."
Continuing her critique on April 15, 2025, Jayapal condemned actions by Trump, Elon Musk, and certain Republicans, suggesting they are attempting to undermine legal frameworks. Her assertion that political opponents are trying to dismantle the country was made clear when she wrote, "As Donald Trump, Elon Musk, and Republicans ignore the rule of law and try to dismantle our country, we won’t back down."
Pramila Jayapal has represented Washington's 7th District in the U.S. Congress since 2017, following her predecessor Jim McDermott. Prior to her congressional role, she served in the Washington State Senate from 2014 to 2016. A Chennai, India, native, she was born in 1965 and currently resides in Seattle. Jayapal is an alumna of Georgetown University and Northwestern University.
